Janet E. (Washburn) Metzler

JANET E. WASHBURN METZLER, age 73, of Marathon, NY passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Cayuga Medical Center of Ithaca. Janet was born March 23, 1940 in Gouverneur, NY. On Sept. 28, 1957 she was married to Denver A. Metzler in Gouverneur. She was employed at NCC and Foundations both in Cortland as a seamstress. Mr. and Mrs. Metzler have been residents of the Town of Harford since 1968.She was a perfect wife, mother and grandmother and is now with her parents and grandparents.She enjoyed sewing and gardening and going to garage sales.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Denver A. Metzler; her children, Robert (Gail) Metzler of Harford, Kim (David) Coish of Richford, Elizabeth (John Schrauben) Hilsinger of Lansing, Denver (Tammy) Metzler, Jr. of Cortland; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris (Charlie) Sheen and Cathy (Joe) Griffis-Hainey; in-laws, Daryl and Dawn Metzler, Rhonda and Richard Bossard; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary E. Griffis Washburn Bracey; her father, Robert Lawson Washburn; her beloved grandparents, Evan and Margaret E. Griffis and in-laws, Wayne and Caroline Metzler.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Perkins Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorials are directed to the Harford Vol. Fire Dept., Box 7, Harford, NY 13784
