ALEX KYLE SMITH, age 14, of US Route 11, Cortland, NY died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Cortland Memorial Hospital as the result of an agricultural accident on East River Road. Alex was born November 18, 2000 in Syracuse a son of Vicky Hatfield Smith of Cortland and V. Mark Smith of Homer.Alex was a rising freshman at Homer High School and loved farming, hunting, snowmobiling, fireworks and riding dirt bikes.>
Survivors in addition to his parents include his brother, Adam R. Thompson; his sisters, Alyssa A. and Aysia L. Smith; his faithful dog, “Duke”; his grandfather, Roscoe J. Hatfield of Moravia; his nieces and nephews, Austyn, Maddyson, Jayden and Emma; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Victor and Gene Smith and Darla A. Hatfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at the Perkins Funeral Home. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 PM, Monday at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden. Those wishing to remember Alex are encouraged to bring fireworks to the funeral home that will be set off by his family, in his memory, at a later date or to make a donation to the Little York Fireworks display.
