Alfis H. Reed

NEWFIELD, NY - Alfis "Al" H. Reed, age 84, of 713 Millard Hill Road, Newfield, NY passed away Monday, November 23, 2009 at his home.

Born December 2, 1924 in Canton, NY, he was the youngest of seven children born to the late Ellis D. and Mabel Rathbun Reed. At age 18 he enlisted in the US Navy and served on a submarine chaser in the Pacific theatre during WW II. He was a heavy equipment operator at Cornell University for 36 years, retiring in 1995. "Al" was an escort with Gadabout for many years, he was an avid bowler and was a founder and member of the Cornell Recreation Club and the Newfield Athletic Booster Club. He was a former member of the Eagles Aerie #1253 of Ithaca.

Al is survived by his wife, Francine Conklin Reed of Newfield, NY; son and daughter in law, Donald and Melody Reed of Newfield, NY; daughter and son in law, Marjorie and Donald Pesaresi of Ithaca, NY; five grandsons, one granddaughter, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the Perkins Funeral Home, with Rev. Dale Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Trumbulls Corners Cemetery, Newfield, NY. Friends are invited to call Friday, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the funeral home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY. Memorial contributions in Al’s name may be made to Hospicare, 172 E.
