ALVIN E. THAYER, JR., age 63, of Peruville Road, McLean, NY passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015, at the Cortland Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. “Al” was born Nov. 11, 1951, the son of the late Alvin E. Thayer, Sr. and Lucille Youmans Thayer Ingrahm. Al attended school in McLean and Dryden and was married on March 17, 1968 to the former Donna Ann Crandall. Always in the building and contracting business, he was the proud owner of Thayer’s Contracting with his son, Rob. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and a hobby farmer who most of all enjoyed time at hunting camp with family and friends. Al loved traveling to new places and taking day trips with his wife to the Turning Stone Casino. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who placed steadfast loyalty to his family, friends, and community. He was very proud of “Thayersville”, his own creation and a place for his family to live, be together and enjoy.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna A. Thayer; his sons, Robert J. (Laurie Palladino) Thayer and Brody S. Thayer all of McLean; his daughter, Michelle R. (Danny) Wheaton of Groton; his grandchildren, Robert Jr., Ryan, Danielle, Shyanne, Allee, Ashlee, Julie, Savannah, Randy, and Breonna; his siblings, Kathryn Thayer of Cortland, Charles Thayer, Neal (Lin) Ingrahm, Jr., Bradley Ingrahm, Dawn Ingrahm all of Richford; a special sister-in-law, Deb (James) Calabro of McLean; his in-laws, Charles and Jean Crandall Gammon of McGraw; nieces, nephews, cousins and his “best friends” Tucker and Oliver. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Thayer; his sister, Michelle Ingrahm and his step-father, Neal S. Ingrahm.
Services will be held at 4 PM, Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the McLean Community Church with Pastor David Carter officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
