Anna M. Dann

Anna M. Dann (Smith), 93 -- loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend -- was called home to the Lord early Tuesday morning, April 26, 2016.

Born on February 27, 1923, to Leslie and Mary Smith, Anna was a gifted student. She graduated valedictorian of the Truxton High School class of 1940, and proceeded to study English at Houghton College. In 1944, on her 21st birthday, she married her husband Claud and enjoyed 61 years of marriage until his death in 2005. She enjoyed working - as a farmer's wife and mother of four, but also for Fay Stafford at the First National Bank of Dryden, followed by GLF (later Agway), and finally for Suburban Propane in Polkville.

She also enjoyed animals, in particular watching the hummingbirds. She allowed her children to keep a number of pets, including a variety of cats and dogs, a spider monkey, a chameleon, ducks, and a de-scented skunk. Her one exception was snakes, which she hated.

Church was always very important to Anna. She and her husband worked with Baptist Church Planters and helped with AWANA, and she ministered as a church pianist for many years. She liked to "burn rubber" in the church parking lot on occasion. She was most recently a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Harford, NY.

She is survived by her two daughters, Marilla (Robert) Kline and Marilou (Melvin) Mitchell; a son, Martin Dann; a daughter-in-law, Susan Dann; eight grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren, although she is known as "Grandma" by many others. She loved her grandchildren and rarely, if ever, missed a birthday. She was predeceased by her husband, Claud Dann; a son, Les Dann; a sister, Mary Brown; and a brother, Elmer (Bud) Smith.

Calling hours will begin at ten o'clock on Friday, April 29, at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY, followed by a funeral service there at eleven o'clock, officiated by Pastor Jim Owens.
