ARDELLA MAY SHERMAN,
age 84, of Willowbrook Manor, Dryden, NY, died Thursday, August 4, 2005 at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY. Mrs. Sherman was born April 4, 1921 in Solon, NY a daughter of the late Cecil and Ivah Gingrich Weatherby. She was graduated from Virgil High School in the Class of 1938 and married Gerald Sherman on Jan. 30, 1942 at the Weatherby farm in Virgil, NY. Mr. and Mrs. Sherman were operators of the Jerry-Dell dairy farm on Gee Hill Road until transferring it to their son in 1976. Also, she had been employed years ago at Cary Co. and later worked at the Community Chest of Cortland before being employed at Empire Livestock Sales Co. in Dryden. She was a member of the South Cortland Grange, the New York State Grange, the Dryden Chapter #250 Order of the Eastern Star and Dryden Senior Citizens. She was an avid reader and had started a Bible study at Willowbrook Manor. Ardella was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Gerald W. Sherman of Dryden; her children, Elaine A. (Garry) Mallison of Port Crane, NY, Sharon I. (Thomas) Shaw of Horseheads; Brent L. (Christine) Sherman of Cortland, and Vaughn M. (Susan) Sherman of Dryden; a sister, Leah Newcomb of Cortland; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A brother, Bernard Weatherby, died in 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, August 8, 2005 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Janet Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Virgil Rural Cemetery, Virgil, NY. Friends are invited to call from 12 to 2 PM Monday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Memorials are directed to the Dryden Ambulance Fund, P.O.
