Barbara D. Carpenter, age 73, of Concord, NC formerly of Dryden, NY passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC. Born April 14, 1939 in Ithaca, NY, she is the daughter of the late Daniel and Clara Bettis Cortright and wife of the late Robert G. Carpenter who died in 2004. She had been employed at Smith Corona and later at Hancock Fabrics in North Carolina prior to becoming ill.
She was an avid crafter and reader, made jewelry and was a loving generous mother and grandmother who loved her family.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her children, Gail (Walter Tripp) Hogancamp of Endicott, NY, Robin (Jeff Vandervort) Short of Warren Center, PA, Tracy Carpenter of Concord, NC, Kelly Carpenter of Concord, NC, Kyle (April) Carpenter of Brooktondale, NY; grandchildren, Jamie (Coleen) Carpenter, Jeremy Carpenter, Ann Marie Hogancamp, Christopher Short, Alexandra Carpenter, Zacharey Carpenter, Matthew Bollinger, Madison, Carpenter, Michelle Carpenter and Bobby Carpenter; great grandchildren, Haylee Carpenter and Noelle Santos; siblings, Earl Cortright, Lila Pizzola, Charles Cortright, Kay Simpson, John Cortright and Claude Cortright and several nieces and nephews and special friend and sidekick, Dixie Bell of Kannapolis, NC. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, son, David, great grandson, Nicholas and siblings, Lucille, Diane and Pauline.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, July 2, 2012 at Perkins Funeral Home, with Rev. David Nicholls officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery. Friends may call from 10-11 am prior to the service at the funeral home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY.
