Barbara J. Hatfield,
77, of 240 Gulf Hill Rd Freeville, NY passed away unexpectedly Tuesday Dec. 29, 2009 at Cortland Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 17, 1932 in Rome, NY, the daughter of Earl and Gertrude Smith Stuttle. She attended Cortland, McLean, and graduated from Dryden High School in 1950. She graduated from SUNY Delhi in 1951.
On October 25, 1952 she married Charles M. Hatfield who survives. Barbara and Charlie operated Chflokie Farms in McLean. Later they partnered with their daughter and son-in-law until their retirement.
Barbara lived for her family and was so proud of her granddaughters. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She loved to beautify the farm and her home with her colorful flower gardens. She and Charlie enjoyed their winters in Briny Breezes Florida planning parties, riding her bike and visiting with friends. She enjoyed photography and making picture albums. She and Charlie took pleasure in traveling over the years with farm groups and most recently the Briny Breezes History Club. She was always one to think of those in need.
She was a member of McLean Community Church UCC, McLean Grange, Briny Breezes Shuffleboard Club and History Club.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles, her daughter Linda (Steven) Foote of Freeville; granddaughters, Brittany Foote and fiancé Sean Heagerty of Hilton, NY, Lacey Foote and fiancé Tony Augustine of Freeville, special "granddaughter" Shyanne Patriarco of Freeville, brother Lewis (Linda) Stuttle of Dryden, foster brothers Tim (Betty) Austin of Walton NY and Graham (Martha) Akers of Pennington, NJ, a sister-inlaw, Letha (Sibley Stewart) Sutton of Freeville; a brother-in-law, Keith (Mary Lou) Hatfield of Scipio Center; a cousin Sally (Charles) Dixon of The Villages Florida, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother-in-law, William Sutton, niece Sherry Sutton Snyder, and cousins Beverly Ludwig and Robert Stuttle.
Services will be held at McLean Community Church UCC on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at 11 AM with the Reverend Leslie A. Smith officiating. Calling hours will be held at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden on Friday January 1, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Interment will be delayed until Spring.
