BERNARD F. GUREWICH, age 88, a resident of Dryden, NY since 1975 passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Hospicare and Palliative Care facility in Ithaca, NY after a 2 week illness. “Bernie” was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on April 10th, 1925, a son of the late John and Anna Lelashus Gurewich. After graduating from Kaufman High School he entered the US Navy and served honorably in Europe and the Pacific during the end of WW II.
BERNARD F. Becoming a Naval Radar Man First Class sparked an interest in electronics which lead to a career in the fledgling industry of television broadcasting. Bernie worked for many years at Taft Broadcasting before relocating to Dryden, NY and being employed at Cornell University at the Educational Television Center until retirement in 1990. His wife, Betty, to whom he was married for 62 years, passed away March 7, 2009.
Survivors include his sons, Lawrence and Alan (Anna) Gurewich of Dryden and David of Yuma, AZ; a sister, Jacqueline (James) Gray of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Nicole and Brian Gurewich of Dryden; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden. There are no prior calling hours. Perkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
