Betty Julia Vanetten Campbell

Betty Julia VanEtten Campbell, age 91, of Snyder Hill Road, Ithaca, NY passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Beechtree Care Center, Ithaca, NY.

Born April 18, 1926, at home in Danby, NY, she was one of ten children born to the late Austin Lathrop Rose and Florence Mae Beers Rose. Betty worked at Willard Straight Hall at Cornell, during her four years at Ithaca High School, prior to her graduation in 1944. After graduating, she married and became a foster mother for eight years, helping several youth prior to their being adopted. During that time, she started a family by having two daughters of her own. She was employed in the manufacturing industry first with Smith Corona in Groton, NY and then after moving to Ithaca, with National Cash Register and Morse Chain Co., retiring in 1962. She was an avid bowler and crafter, attending many craft shows and selling the things she made. She also was a Sarah Coventry jewelry dealer and played the accordion.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Evonne M. “Bonnie” Sherman of Ithaca, NY and Brenda L. Robinson of Lansing, NY; grandchildren, Denise M. (Robert) Woods of Newark Valley, NY, Brian (Anna) Haner of Slaterville Springs, NY, Brandi Hammond of Baltimore, MD, Brandon (Molly) Hammond of Falls Church, VA; step grandchildren, Jeanine R. (Charles) Komar of Owego, NY and Becky Lynn Wade of Newark Valley, NY; great grandchildren, Paul William Woods, Amanda Rose (Brian) Shaver, Joseph Haner, Ryker “Monica” Haner, Zowie Haner, Taylin Hammond, Coleman Hammond and Eamonn Hammond; step great grandchildren, Shelby L. Wade and Craig Robert Wade; her sister, Alice Bell of Brooktondale, NY and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Frederick G. Campbell in 2000, her sons in law, Robert L. Sherman in 2008 and Raymond H. Robinson in 2013; the father of her children, William E. VanEtten and by her eight siblings, Iva Dupois, Bernard Rose, Mary Davis, Herbert Rose, Ralph Rose, Robert Rose, Esther Johnson and Alfred Rose.
