Betty J. “Peak” Higgins
Passed away peacefully at home with the loving care of her family & Hospice on Wed. Dec. 4, 2024. She was 80 years old.
Betty was a devout Jehovah’s Witness and enjoyed sharing God‘s word with everyone she would meet. Never one to mince words, you always came away from a conversation knowing what she thought/felt, and most likely with a smile as she always tried to make you laugh. Betty never met a stranger!! You were fast friends and expressed how much you loved her after just a short time in her presence.
Betty worked in the food service industry for all of her career. She worked in Ewald at the George Junior Republic in Freeville & ended her career with the Lansing school district. Betty also had a catering side job, where she made beautiful wedding & anniversary cakes. She took much pride and joy in her work and created beautiful works of art. She also was a local Avon lady and had many loyal customers for many years. After her retirement, she continued to indulge in her passion for baking, much to her husband’s delight.
Betty enjoyed listening to older country music & had a fondness for driving a little too fast, often reminiscing about her childhood dream of becoming a racecar driver.
Betty & her husband Bob went on numerous cruises and got to explore many beautiful places together. Sharing 33 years together, Bob was a blessing in her life.
Betty had a deep love for her fur babies, ILee & Beba and enjoyed watching the many birds that would come to her feeders daily. She enjoyed watching the Price is Right, Jeopardy and Person, Place or Thing when she watch TV. Mostly she would rather be reading a good book, doing puzzles or being a shark at cards.  She found pleasure and searching for the hidden hummingbird in her Birds & Blooms magazine, always finding it before she would read the articles.
A few of her favorite things: HOT fries at McDonald’s, diet Pepsi and cutting her grandchildren’s hair.
Betty is survived by her children Thomas Peak, David Peak (Kim Bergen), Lorette (Carlos) Peak-Flores, Shelly MacBain (Gerry) & Kelly (Jeff) Garett, 7 grandchildren (a special shot-out to Ashley Peak for your extra special love & care for grandma in her last months) & 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded by her grandson Travis Blake, her husband Raymond (Bob) Higgins & her brother David Edwards.
Betty will be deeply missed by her family & friends, who will cherish their memories of her love, warmth & vibrant spirit.
Per her wishes, there will be no funeral service, however friends & family may share any memories of her at her calling hours to be held at Perkins Funeral Home in Dryden, NY on Friday Dec. 20, 2024 from 4-6 pm.
In lieu of flowers please make a contribution in her name to your local SPCA &/or Hospice services
