BETTY H. KENYON. On June 25, 2012 Betty H. Kenyon, age 84, of Freeville, NY passed away at Oswego Hospital after a short illness, with her two brothers at her side. Betty was born on May 26, 1928 in Mexico, NY, the daughter of the late Florence Jacobs Henderson and Bernie Henderson.
She attended Fort Leasure Elementary one-room schoolhouse.
Betty is survived by her brothers, Allen R. Henderson of North Syracuse, NY and Bernie G. Henderson of Oswego, NY; niece, Beth (Ron) Napiorkowski and their children, Anna and Nate of Liverpool, NY; nephew, Scott (Lisa) Henderson and their children, Sean and Sara of Huntersville, NC. Betty was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Donald G. Kenyon, her parents, Florence and Bernie Henderson and her sister in law, Joanne Henderson.
She graduated from Mexico Academy and Central School in 1945 and continued her education at Oswego State Teachers
College, graduating in 1949, with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She later earned a Master's degree in Education from Cortland State.
In 1950, Betty married Donald G. Kenyon and resided in Freeville, NY until 2012. Betty spent the majority of her teaching career (a career in which she took great pride) with the Groton Central School District. She was an elementary classroom teacher, and later, mathematics coordinator. She ultimately taught every elementary grade in her 41 year career, retiring in 1991. During her tenure, Betty was extremely active in all elements of elementary education and administration. During her retirement years, Betty read avidly from her extensive collection of novels. She also enjoyed the outdoors, and was particularly interested in the study of ornithology.
