BETTY MARION, age 99, of Irish Settlement Road, Freeville, NY passed away, Nov. 22, 2015 at the Cayuga Medical Center. Rosalie Elizabeth Rood was born June 4, 1916 at Preble, NY a daughter of the late Clarence and Nellie Smith Rood. Betty was graduated from Cincinnatus High School in 1935 and then from Cortland Business Institute where she earned a degree in business. On April 6, 1940 she was married to Willis D. Marion who passed away Nov. 16, 2014. In June of 1944 Betty and Willis moved to The Barton-Miller Farm on Irish Settlement Road when Willis was employed as the farm manager. Betty was active in the Home Bureau and shared often with the Home Demonstration Program; she was also active in the Dryden PTA. Betty was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden having joined in 1946 and served in many church offices. In 1955 she began working at George Junior Republic in the accounting office, retiring in 1981. Willis and Betty wintered in Ellenton, Florida for many years. Betty loved gardening, flowers, music, traveling and entertaining friends and family at "The Farm". Betty was a gracious host, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Marion Crossen of Marshall, VA; a granddaughter, Rachel (John) Crossen of Marshall; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Amanda and Morgan Crossen; a brother-in-law, Ivan Marion; sisters-in-Law, Martha and Margaret Rood; nieces, nephews and cousins and a former son-n-law, Steven W. Crossen. Betty was predeceased by her siblings, Louie Rood, Florence Schaff, Arnold Rood, Robert Rood, Eleanor Marion, Richard Rood, Charlotte Morrison, Philip Rood; an infant daughter, Priscilla Marion.
Memorial services for "Betty" will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, May 14th at The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden. Burial will be private in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. The family will receive their friends at church after the memorial service. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are directed to The First Presbyterian Church, P.O.
