BETTY McGORY, age 88, of North Road, Freeville, NY passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015 at home after an extended illness. Betty was born May 30, 1927 in Groton, a daughter of the late Leslie and Bertha Mackey Wilcox. A life area resident and a 1943 graduate of Groton High School, Betty was married on August 11, 1945 to Henry Lewis McGory who preceded her in death on June 17, 2014. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed sewing, reading and gardening. She volunteered at the Southworth Library, the McLean Community Church Food Giveaway and My Brother’s Keeper sewing group at the United Methodist Church of Dryden. She was school secretary at the Cassavant Elementary School for many years and had previously worked at the school cafeteria.

Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl (Dale) Schutt of Sunset Beach, NC and Patricia (Roger) Morehouse of Homer and her son, Robert (Gail) McGory of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren, Courtney (Adam) Zuckerman, Erica (Brian) Sapienza, Nicholas (Sonya) McGory and Aaron Morehouse; four great-granddaughters; nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law, Bertha McGory, Nellie Beames and Carolyn McGory and her beloved cat, Tom. She was also predeceased by her siblings Carlene, Wesley, Arlene, Wilma and Leslie, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 at the Mclean Community Church with Rev. David Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 PM, Wednesday, at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are directed to the SPCA or the animal rescue of one’s choice.
