Betty J. Nages, age 91 of Freeville, NY passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Cortland Park Nursing Facility.
Born May 5, 1933 in Ithaca, NY she was the daughter of the late Adam and Leona Howard Carman and wife of the late Joseph Nages who died in 2020. Betty was a secretary to Rod Serling at Ithaca College then worked at Eastman Press and then Cayuga Press. She bought, sold and collected antique glassware with her parents and sister and was an avid James Patterson reader.
Betty is survived by her son, Michael (Susan) Nages of Groton, NY and granddaughter, JoAnna (Christopher Buono); son, Daniel (Cheryl) Nages of Sidney, NY and grandson, Zachary (Hannah) Nages; great grandsons, Theodore and August, and granddaughter, Emily (James) Hansel; sister, Beverly Coon; several nieces, nephews and her beloved fur baby, Lillie. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by her sister, Josephine Hurst and brothers, Lyle Carmon, Walter Carman and Adam “Butch” Carman.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 2 pm on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Frear Memorial Park, Ithaca. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
