BEULAH STOTTLE TRAVIS,
100, died February 3, 2007 at the Groton Nursing Home, Groton, NY. Born August 20, 1906, the daughter of Sol Ray and Sarah Miller Stottle, she attended schools in Scottsville and Rochester and graduated from the University of Rochester. She was married to Van C. Travis who predeceased her. She was a resident of Syracuse from 1936 until her move to Groton in 2001.
Beulah served on the staff of the First Presbyterian Church of Syracuse for 45 years as Director of Christian Education and as Director of the McConaghy Youth Center where she founded and directed Exploring Your World, a program directed to the special needs of the youth living in the church’s neighborhood. During the 35 years that she was associated with the program, several generations of neighborhood children benefitted from the program’s pre-school, after- school and summer educational and recreation programs. For her work Beulah received the prestigious Jefferson Award, the Publishers Clearing House Good as Gold Award, and numerous citations from the Presbyterian Church for outstanding public service.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Van C. Travis, Jr., and Clara Miller Travis of Pittsford, NY; her granddaughter, Karen Anne Travis, Hunt Valley, MD; her grandson, Van C. Travis, III, (Kelly), Pittsford, NY and two great grandchildren Zachary and Elena Travis. Her daughter, Anne Elizabeth Travis and her sister, Gladys Stottle Dolan, predeceased her.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church United of Syracuse, 620 W. Genesee St. on Saturday, May 12. Details regarding the service will be announced at a later time. A private burial service will be held in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Syracuse at the convenience of the family.
