Beverly Jean "Bun" (Whittaker) Keane

BEVERLY JEAN WHITTAKER KEANE
Canastota, NY – Beverly Jean Whittaker Keane (Beverly aka “Bun”), age 94 and 3/4, passed away with the grace in which she lived, on March 6, 2022.  The Bun was born June 26, 1927, in Brooktondale, NY, a daughter of parents Herbert and Grace (Goodrich) Whittaker.  She was predeceased by Robert, her husband of 67 years; her sisters:  Bertha (Frank) Kester, Elizabeth, and Grace; brothers: Riley (Charlotte), Richard (Phyllis), Glen (Doris), and Herbert (Dorla); lifelong friend: Pat Liddington.

The Bun’s early career included modeling, then employment with GLF out of Ithaca.  After raising a family, she re-entered the workplace for many years, the highlight of which was running a Senior Citizen Center which provided her with fond memories and much pride.   The Bun enjoyed gardening in her “weed patch”, collecting bunny figurines which inhabit many nooks in her home, reading, talking with friends and family, and worrying about the welfare of the many who touched her life.  She was a wonderful grandmother, spending countless hours playing with her grandchildren and making them feel special.  Her grandchildren never left her house without a treat and feeling loved.  We will remember her easy smile, bright humor, and sharp mind.

She is survived by daughters, Candace Patane, Cheryl (John) Cheney, Colleen Keane, and Carmel Keane; grandchildren, Sarah (Edwin) Ashby, Shannon (Paul) Isham, Emily Cheney, and Stephen (Mollie) Patane; great grandchildren, Brayden & Dylan Ashby and Lauren, Roran & Kallen Isham and two foster great-grandchildren; sister, Mary; cousin, Lillian Gregrow; very caring nieces and nephews; dear friends including Ruby Scalia, Patti Cummings, Mary Keck; kind Canastota neighbors; doting caregivers.
A graveside service will be held at Caroline Grove Cemetery at 1 pm on Friday, May 6th with Rev.
