Bradley Mitchell

December 1, 1924 — July 30, 2016

AURORA - Bradley Mitchell of Aurora passed away July 30th, 2016 at Matthew House after a brief fight with cancer. He was born in Scipioville on December 1, 1924 to his parents Wilson S. and Anna Bradley Mitchell. He graduated from Sherwood Central School in 1942 and started college at Cornell University but decided to join the US Army and served from 1943-1945. After his discharge, he attended the University of New Mexico receiving his BA degree in 1950. He returned to NY to attend Cornell and received his Masters degree in Education in 1951. He taught Social Studies at Perry Central School from 1953-1959 and Groton Central School from 1959-1980 when he retired. Bradley loved to travel and saw most of the world and was always the teacher and historian. He gave many talks and slide shows about his travels as one of his passions. He loved to travel and explored all 50 states, all of Europe, Turkey, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and some Arab countries. He was a founding member of the Cayuga Garden Club as gardening was one of his favorite hobbies along with bridge and history, once serving as president of the Howland Stone Store Museum. He enjoyed developing and working at the Howland Stone Store Museum.
He is survived by his nephews, William (Ruth Ann) Mitchell, Wilson (Sandy) Mitchell, Lewis (Nobu) Mitchell, C. Keith Mitchell, Leonard (Yvonne) Jordan, Mark (Judy) Jordan and Brian (Margaret) Hicks; nieces, Barbara (Dave) Thorsen, Ginny Knapp, Judy (Don) Johnson, Diane Hicks-Hughes, Karen (George) Corcoran and Kathy Jordan (Alan) Boardway. Five cousins he enjoyed being with, G. Bradley (Hari Ellen) Huff, David (Carol) Huff, Allen (Dana) Webster, Lynn Webster, Bradley Paddington and many other Mitchell and Bradley cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Wilson S. (Betty) Mitchell, Charles E. (Clara) Mitchell and sisters, Helen Anna (Leonard) Jordan and Eunice Hicks Miller.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 10 AM, Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Scipioville Presbyterian Church. Visiting with the family will be after the service.
