Brenda J. Vanmarter

Brenda J. VanMarter, age 64, of Cortland, NY passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY.
Born May 20, 1952 in Cortland, NY she was the daughter of the late Leonard H. and Marian Johnson Sheldon and wife of the late David VanMarter who died in 1999.
Brenda had been employed with Smith Corona, and was retired from Cornell University. She was a member of the Hudson-Fulton-Dryden Chapter #250, where she had been Matron in 2008, 2009 and 2014 and Homer Chapter #222 where she was matron in 2012 and 2013 and Hamilton Chapter #511, Order of the Eastern Star. She had served as Grand Representative to Alabama in 2010-2012. She was also active in Amaranth and Daughters of the Nile.
Brenda is survived by her daughter, Mary Spears of Cortland, NY; her son, Norman VanMarter of Cincinnatus, NY; four grandchildren, Jeremy VanMarter of McGraw, NY, Crissy VanMarter of Deposit, NY, Cody Spears of Cortland, NY and Ashley Calhoun of Cincinnatus, NY, sister. Kathleen Whittaker of Groton, NY; brothers, William Sheldon of Preble, NY, Fred Sheldon of Harford, NY and Willis Sheldon of Tenn., several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call from 10 am to 12 noon Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY. Eastern Star services conducted by Hudson-Fulton-Dryden and Homer Chapters will be held immediately following calling hours at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed in her name to: Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star, 1400 Utica Street, Apt. 106, Oriskany, NY 13424 or a charity of choice.
