BRUCE A. HAYES, age 65, of Main St., Groton, NY passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca after a short illness. Born in Fulton, NY on May 14, 1944, Bruce was a son of the late Harold and Blanche Hammond Hayes. He served in the US Navy and was a long time area resident. Bruce was a member of several bands including ""Nobody?s Sweetheart"" and years ago worked as a mechanic in several area garages.
Survivors include his step-mother, Beatrice Hayes of Cortland; his children, Richard Hayes of Berkshire, Craig Carman of Spencer, Arthur Hayes of Trumansburg and Jacqueline Hayes of Owego; his brothers, Robert ""Butch"" Hayes of Lugoff, SC and Wayne Hayes of Ithaca; his sisters, Edith Hayes of Trumansburg and Charlene Hayes of Ithaca; a step-sister, Wanda Grover; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Francis Hayes and a daughter Doreen Hayes.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Dean officiating. Burial will be private and at the Convenience of the family in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 3 PM Monday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are directed to the American Lung Association, 506 East Washington St., Syracuse, NY 13202-1940.
