Cortland

CARMEN M. SACLAYAN, age 96, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. Carmen was born in Philippines on August 13, 1925 and was a daughter of the late Silvino Saclayan and Eugenia Manarpaac. She came to the United States in 1998 and has lived in Cortland, NY since then. Her husband, Tomas Choy, her daughter-in-law Aida, and all her siblings preceded her in death.

Carmen is survived by her daughters Zenaida and Angelita who both unselfishly dedicated their time to care for all her needs and lovingly stayed by her side until the end. She is also survived by her sons, Jaime and Thomas, her daughter Mariettes, her daughter-in-law Marivi, her son-in-law Kelvin, her four grandchildren Maricel, Chris, Isabelle, & Lianna, and eight great-grandchildren Aubrey, Kim, Karen, Karl, Katrina, Megumi, Masaharu, & Yvish.

Although Carmen spent the significant part of her life in the Philippines where she has her extended family and many close friends, her 23 years of retirement in the US were filled with meaningful memories. These memories included wonderful travels and fostering lasting relationships with people who became like family to her. For all the kindness and love they gave to their mom, Carmen’s daughters and sons send their appreciation to Tauno (Wil); Manny & Agnes and their sons Noli & Dom; Virginia; Carmen Calalang-Woodard; Agustina & Ruby; Marla & her mom Chita; and the caring Dr. Lynn Cunningham.

Carmen’s son, Thomas, wrote this heartfelt tribute for her:

“We were wishing you to cross the 100 mark but it was not up to us. One thing we all got was the blessing you got a full life. We miss how you made us laugh with your humor. Our father provided for the family, but you were ingenious in making sure there will always be resources in our family. There is now a void in all of us, but your presence will always be with us. We believe the angels have welcomed you to God's paradise. Please watch over us now dear mother.”
