Carol Anne Sutliff

Carol Anne Sutliff, 70, retired teacher at Groton Elementary School, Groton, NY, passed  unexpectedly as a result of a pulmonary embolism on May 29th, 2023 at Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca,  NY.

Born November 14, 1952 in Los Angeles, CA to Gerald and Muriel Carrier Meyer, she was  married to William R. Sutliff and older sister to Barbara Meyer Sodums.

She attended Wells College in Aurora, NY, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in 1975. She earned  her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at Cortland State University, going on to teach  Kindergarten and First Grade for 26 years until her retirement. She was proud to be a breast cancer  survivor and generously supported breast cancer research.

Carol was very devoted to her husband and family, spending as much time as she could with her  children, grandchildren, nephew and great-nieces and nephews, often traveling to Colorado where her  oldest son and nephew’s families reside.

Carol was a friend to literally ALL animals. Everywhere she went she focused on the furred and  feathered, petting every dog and feeding all the wildlife. She always tried to help any who’d been injured, sick or hungry. On her porch were dishes of cat food, and a row of heated “kittie houses” for use  by any stray cats, opossums, or whoever needed food or shelter. She adopted the neediest of animals,  and at the time of her passing her home was a loving haven for a number of dogs and cats with special  needs.

If there was a word to describe her, it would probably be FUN! Anytime she was with her loved  ones she was the life of the party and kept us all laughing. She believed in living life to its fullest, always  decorating, dressing and accessorizing to celebrate the seasons, holidays, or just her mood.

Carol’s passing will leave a huge void in the lives of her friends and loved ones. She will be so, so  missed by us all.

She is survived by her husband, William R. Sutliff, her sons, Derek J. Fox (Chava) and Matthew W.  Fox (Samantha), her grandchildren, Cameron Fox, Madison Fox, Shane Fox and Layla Fox, her sister,  Barbara Sodums (Marc), and her nephew, Noel Drier and his children.
