Carole Lee Ford (Eaton), 84, of Virgil, NY passed away July 3, 2024 at her home in the
care of Hospice with her family and husband of 66 years by her side. Born on April 21,
1940, in Middletown, NY to Douglas B. & Vivian D. (Biehl) Eaton. She attended
Middletown high school. On January 3, 1958, Carole married her beloved husband Howard (Bud) A.
Ford. Bud & Carole immediately starting farming and raising children. Even though she was born
in the city, she quickly discovered that she loved farming and everything that it entailed,
including collecting eggs, which she did with a boxing glove on one hand while grabbing
the eggs with the other. In 1967, the family decided to purchase a farm and move to
Virgil, NY and put down roots. They farmed until 1990 when they sold their prized herd
of registered Holsteins. She also worked as a Matron/Dispatcher at the Cortland
County Jail and was the Virgil Court Clerk for 23 years alongside her dear friend
Justice George Saltsman, and then later retired as the Virgil Town Clerk. In her
Retirement, she even rode in the dump truck with her husband to keep him in line.
Carole had a service heart, serving as the Secretary of the Virgil Volunteer Fire
Dept. and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. When her children were young, she
was a 4H Leader for the Hill nā Dale Club.
Carole loved to cook and enjoyed reading cookbooks. She was an excellent cook, and
the farmhouse table was always full, especially during hunting season. She loved her
flowers, birds, and especially hummingbirds. She enjoyed going for rides, garage sales,
and shopping. Carole loved life in general and all it had to offer.
In addition to her husband, Bud, Carole is survived by her four children Donald H. (Cheryl), Wayne
B. (Marcia), Roy M. (Debbie), and Laurie L. (John) Case; 7 grandchildren Matt, Shawn, John, Amber,
Dan, Jason, Dylan; 8 great grandchildren Jayden, Addison, Landon, Sy, Beau, Meryl,
Abigail, & Carter. She is predeceased by her parents and her special sidekicks Zeke
and Quigly.
Per her wishes, there will be no services or celebration of life. Instead, think of her
fondly in her happier days. In lieu of flowers or cards, donations in her name can be
made to Hospice or a charity of your choice.
