CECIL E. CAGE,
age 82, of 15 Cook Street, Freeville, NY passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the Cortland Memorial Hospital. Cecil was born in Wellsboro, PA a son of the late William L. and Leona Carpenter Cage. He has resided in Freeville for most of his life and was a member and Past Fire Chief of the W. B. Strong Vol. Fire Company. In 2004 he was the recipient of the W.B. Strong Vol. Fire Co.’s Fireman of the Year award. Cecil served his country in the US Army in Italy during WW II and was a member of the Dryden Township Post 8158, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He also was a member of the Navigational Pilot’s Association and the Cost Guard Auxiliary. For several years he along with his late wife, Jane, operated a tour boat on Cayuga Lake. He was retired from the Town of Dryden Highway Department.
Survivors include three step children, Lee Gridley of Lake Havasu City, AZ and Ray Gridley of West Millford, NJ and Shirley Russell of McGraw, NY; several nieces including, Joyce (Don) Personius of Newfield, Jean (David) Pixley of Meza, AZ, Merlynn (Bill) Brant of Enfield, CT, Virginia (Tom) Bregger of Wake Forest, NC and Lindy (Tim) Bunzey of Endicott, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Ernestine Ballardini and a brother Merle Cage
Funeral services will be at 3 PM Friday, May 13, 2005 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Austin of the United Methodist Church of Freeville officiating. Burial will be private. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 3 PM Friday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Memorials in Cecil’s name may be made to the W.B. Strong Vol. Fire Co. P.O. Box 129, Freeville, NY 13068-0129.
