Charles E. Dollaway, 79, of Ithaca, passed away November 5, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. Chuck was born, May 19, 1935 in Ithaca, New York. He was graduated from Ithaca High School in 1953. Chuck spent his adult life in service to his country and community. He was in the US Navy aboard the USS Investigator GR9 from 1956-59. He took great pride in his work as an Ithaca City Police officer for 23 years, serving as PBA President for three terms.
After retirement from the IPD, he was a general contractor and was regarded for his craftsmanship and integrity, which became the foundation for lifelong friendships with many of his clients.
Chuck loved the outdoors and all four seasons, especially the fall. He loved all bodies of water - - lakes, streams, and oceans. Above all, Chuck was devoted to and deeply loved his family and always put their needs before his.
He is preceded in death by his parents C. Edward Dollaway and Helen McNamara, a sister, Elinor Dollaway. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Pamela; sons, C. Edward (Robin) of Lansing, Steven (Jill) of Ithaca, Scott (Jackie) of Bonney Lake, WA, and daughter Shannon (Jeffrey) Humphrey of Dryden; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, a beloved cousin Esther, and the Phillips/Case families.
Many thanks to Dr. James Walsh and Dr. Mary Howson, both of whom provided exceptional care, advice, and encouragement to Chuck and Pam Sincere thanks, also to the Hospice staff.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM, Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, Ithaca. Burial with Military Honors provided by Members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 5 PM, Sunday at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden. In honor of Barb and Mike’s special care at the Pulmonary Rehab Center, the family requests gifts in lieu of flowers are directed to the Robert Packer Pulmonary Rehab Center, 9th Floor, 1 Guthrie Square, Sayre, PA 18440.
