Charlotte B. Mayo

Charlotte Baker Mayo 79, of Ithaca, New York, passed from this earth on Friday, June 21, 2024 and began her next journey. Charlotte was born on October 11, 1944, in Ithaca to Iva (Wood) Baker and Gerald Baker and spent her entire life living within one mile of her family homestead in Danby, New York. She graduated from Ithaca High School in June of 1961 and married her high school sweetheart, Ray Mayo on November 3, 1962. Charlotte was a caring and compassionate daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who was always the first to offer to lend a hand to those in need.

In 1989, after raising her family, Charlotte began her second career working in the Department of Building Care at Cornell University and retired in 2007. During her time at Cornell, she served as a UAW Union Steward. She was an avid gardener, and served as a trustee for the South Hill Cemetery Association and was a member of the Danby Community Church.

Charlotte is predeceased by her parents, Iva (Wood) Baker, and Gerald Baker, sister Charlene “Sue” (Baker) Howard, and brother Jack Baker. Surviving include her husband of 61 years, Ray Mayo of Ithaca, brother, Carl (Robin) Baker of Hollywood, AL, son Raymond (Connie) Mayo of Delton, FL, daughter Sonja (Beau) Baylor of Ithaca, grandchildren, Noel (Phil) Christopher of Abington, MA, Dakota Baylor of Malden, MA, and Devin Baylor of Cortland, NY and great-grandson, Matthew Crouch of Deltona, FL.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the South Hill Cemetery.

Special thanks for Dr. Gaffney, the many wonderful docs and nurses at the Cayuga Medical Center including the ER staff who were on duty Friday, June 14th , the Intensive Care Team, and the compassionate nurses of 4 North. Special thanks to nurse Madi who held us together and showed such care and compassion during those final days.
