CHERI LEE KNAPP, age 50, of 94 Bone Plain Road, Freeville, NY passed away Friday, June 17 at the Cayuga Medical Center after an 8 month battle with cancer. Cheri was born Nov. 4, 1960, in Johnson City, NY a daughter of Joyce Nelson Chase of Spencer and the late Joseph Chase. Cheri was a graduate of Candor High School and had been employed at Cornell University for 32 years. On July 27, 1991 she was married to Michael J. Knapp at Freeville. Cheri loved going to Cayuga Lake, dancing, Bingo and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She was a volunteer with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She will be missed by a loving family, many co-workers and friends.
Survivors include her mother, Joyce Chase of Spencer, her husband, Michael J. Knapp of Freeville, her children, Faith (Steven) Seager of Lansing, Kara Knapp of Ithaca and Jason Knapp (Paula Campbell) of Freeville; siblings, Floyd (Carolyn) Houghton, Elaine (George) Brady, Brenda (Cecil) Hollien, Kelly Sundquist, and Joseph Chase Jr.; grandchildren, Alexis, Andrew, Savannah, Kadence, Madison, Nina and Lydia; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Chase and a brother David Houghton.
A celebration of Cheri’s life will be held at 10 AM Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Dean officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Aurora. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
