CLARE E. CANFIELD, age 84, of 701 O’Brien Hill Road, Harford, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012, at the home of his son, Lawrence. Clare was born July 28, 1927 in Cortland, a son of the late Claude and Evelyn Horton Canfield. He was employed on various dairy farms and at Ithaca Gun, Edlund Machine Tool and retired from Gutchess Lumber in 1989. In retirement he worked at Paul Bunyan Products for a short while. His wife, Gladys Pittsley, died in 2006. Clare enjoyed bowling, tinkering on cars and tractors and camping.

He enjoyed the time caring for his granddaughters and spending time with family. He was a member of the Harford Fire Dept. and attended church at the Brooktondale Baptist Church.Survivors include his children, Raymond (Dora) Canfield of Concord, NC ,Susan Quick of Dundee, NY, Susan Canfield of NY, Regina I. Canfield and Lawrence E. (Jane) Canfield both of Brooktondale, NY; siblings, Claude Canfield, Ruth Evener, Evelyn Fritts and Charles (Doris) Canfield; many grand and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Clare was predeceased by his son, Claire E. Canfield, his daughter, Evelyn L. Allen; siblings, Robert Canfield, Ralph Canfield; a granddaughter, Amber R. Canfield and his first wife, Louise Bevis Canfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 Am, Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Richford. Friends are invited to call from 9 to 11 Am, Wednesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY.
