Daniel Kenneth Hill, 64, passed away February 25, 2021 at Cayuga Medical Center of Ithaca after an extended illness. He departed this world with music playing, and his loving wife by his side.
Dan was born June 16, 1956 in Exeter, New Hampshire to the late Kenneth Everett and Elizabeth Daley Hill. He graduated from Maine-Endwell High School and Broome Community College. After earning his associate degree in Mechanical Technology, he worked at NYSEG for many years. Dan was dedicated to helping his community, and was an honored member of the Dryden Fire Department. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hiking, following the Yankees and Steelers, and listening to his 78 rpm records. He was a member of Grace & Holy Spirit Church in Cortland for many years, serving on the vestry and as an usher.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Diane. He will be missed by his daughter, Lauren (Chris) Caldwell and son, Drew (Sheena) Hill; as well as grandchildren, Seth, Lanie and Arlo. Dan also leaves behind siblings, Kathy (Bill) Collins, Karen (Dave) Rose, David (Jodi) Hill; aunts, Cora Daley and Nancy Dodge; brothers-in-law and sisters -in-law Wayne and Marlene Sholtes, and Alan and Marcia Sholtes, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Dan fought a brave battle with Alzheimer's disease in the final years of his life, with the loving support of his family and friends. Being a lifelong helper, he volunteered for 2 clinical trials through the University of Rochester in the hopes of advancing research into the illness. Our family would like to acknowledge the staff of 4 South at Cayuga Medical Center of Ithaca, for their dedication to Dan's care at the end of his life.
The family will receive friends at Perkins Funeral Home in Dryden on Saturday, March 13, 2021 from 1pm to 3pm, with a service, which will be live streamed, to follow at 3 pm, with Rev. Peter Williams officiating. Masks and distancing will be required and capacity may be limited. Expressions of sympathy in Dan’s memory can be made to Dryden Fire & Ambulance.
