Daniel R. Kramer

Ross Kramer died peacefully on Thursday January 24th, 2013 in Ithaca, NY at the age of 66. A private visitation was held for his close family, immediately followed by cremation. A memorial service will take place in Ithaca in late spring.

He then attended his parents’ and grandparents’ alma mater, the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where he received a Bachelor of Arts (English), and was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. He went on to earn his Masters of Social Work from Syracuse University in 1989, and was certified in EMDR therapy in 2000.

Dan worked as a psychiatric social worker for the Tompkins County Mental Health Clinic. He was to retire in May after over 30 years of service to Ithaca and the surrounding communities.

In 1970, Dan moved to Ithaca, NY and became immersed in philosophic study, which he continued to pursue until his death. He married Janice Kovar (his college sweetheart) in 1979. Dan was a loving husband, father and brother, a trusted friend and teacher, wise counsel and patient seeker of truth.

Dan was preceded in death by his father Charles Henry Kramer II, and his mother Jeannette Ross Kramer. Dan is survived by Janice Sue Kovar, his life-partner and best-friend of 40 years, of Belleville, IL; his children, Emily Jeannette (Nicole Lanzillotto) Kramer of Brooklyn, NY, and Matthew Alexander Kramer of Santa Cruz, CA; his sister, Judy (Hosain) Mosavat, of Whitmore Lake, MI, Greg (Cathy) Kramer of Trumansburg, NY, Doug (Jojie) Kramer of Palo Alto, CA, Chip (Sue Stevens) Kramer of Ann Arbor, MI, and David Kramer of Sylvan Lake, MI; his aunts Gloria Baird of Palo Alto, CA, and Ruth Ross of Urbana, IL; and his nieces and nephews: Christine (Jeff) Caris, Justin Kramer, Elizabeth Kramer, Julia Kramer, Courtlandt Kramer, Jacquelyn Kramer, Kellan Kramer, David Mosavat, Fuller Espiritu, Anne Espiritu and Brittany Tankhim, and numerous relatives and friends.

Music was Dan’s passion; he was a lifelong percussionist, an avid listener, and a burgeoning composer. Watching film was one of Dan’s great pastimes.

Family, friends and service to his community were essential to Dan. He was loved by all and will be deeply missed.

Dan was born on August 23rd, 1946 in Chicago, IL to Chuck and Jan Kramer. He grew up in the Chicago area as the eldest of six siblings. He graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School in Oak Park, IL in 1963.
