DAVE DeWITT PERKINS, 61, of Freeville, NY passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital in NYC from complications of a stem cell transplant as a treatment for Amyloidosis. Dave was born May 19, 1952 in Ithaca, NY a son of the late DeWitt Ray "Toad" and Twyla Arlene Humphrey Perkins. Dave was graduated from Dryden High School in 1971.
Shortly thereafter he opened The Sub Shop in the Clock Tower building in Cortland and later was employed at Cornell University in the Department of Life Safety Services prior to opening Toad's Diner in Freeville. Later he opened Toad's Too Ice Cream Store across the street from the diner. He had been a School Bus Driver for the Dryden Central School for the past 7 years. Dave had an extensive knowledge of and loved collecting antiques of all kinds. He was an honored member of the Dryden Fire Department and a member and Past Master of Dryden Lodge #472, F.& A.M. Dave loved his family immensely and had a great affection for his customers and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Kathleen S. Morse Perkins of
Freeville, his daughter, Josephine Hines of Watkins Glen, NY; his son,
Christopher Perkins of Freeville; his sister, Amy (Theodore) Canfield of
Mclean; his brother, Ernest G. Perkins of Florida; his stepmother, Doris Fox Stevens Perkins; his grandson, Caleb Hines; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and many extended family members. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Deborah Ray Parker and his son-in-law, Daniel Hines.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, November 22nd at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. John Maltby officiating. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 PM, Thursday, Nov. 21 at the funeral home,
55 west Main Street, Dryden, NY. Members of Dryden Lodge #472 will conduct Masonic Services a7:45 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are directed to the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory,
