DAVID PHILIP BROWN, age 63, of 7 Kimberly Drive, Dryden, NY passed away unexpectedly at the Cayuga Medical Center after a four day illness. David was born February 9, 1945 in Ithaca, NY a son of the late Jesse Alan and Mary Hallstead Brown. He was graduated from Ithaca High School in 1963 and with a Bachelors of Science from Cornell University in 1969. David earned his Masters of Science from Cornell in 1973. He was continuously employed at Cornell University from 1963 to the present time. He was a Senior Extension Associate. Professionally, David was a member of the American Dairy Science Association, the Institute of Food Technologists and the New York State Sanitarians. David was well known throughout the world as a Cheese Judge and had worked with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets to train Certified Milk Inspectors for the improvement of milk and milk products through good quality assurance practices. To that end he conducted training programs for Dairy Processing Plant Superintendents and developed workshops for ice cream manufacturing, milk processing and laboratory testing both for industry and regulatory personnel. At Cornell he was known for his research in dairy science, food science, milk and value-added agriculture. David was the instructor for Food Science 102, a Seminar Course in Food Science. He was a life member of the NRA, a member of Ducks Unlimited and was active in 4-H and Boy Scouts. His passion was playing Bass Guitar with which he had been involved in many bands throughout the years. He was a founding member of the Dryden Sertoma Club. David was loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed by his family, friends and work associates.

Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Janice Balitz Brown of Dryden; his son, P. Charles (Theresa) Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio, his daughter, Brenda Lee Pearson of Newfield; brothers, Peter (Ruth Anne) Brown of Ithaca and Timothy (Eleanor) Brown of Bridgeport, NY; three grandchildren, Kyle David Brown, Dylan Robert Adams and Samantha Marie Brown; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Perkins Funeral Home. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 5 PM Sunday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
