DEAN CARPENTER,
age 82, of Leon Ave., Cortland and formerly of Harford, NY died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006 at the Groton Nursing Facility after a brief illness. Dean was born June 11, 1924 at Harford and was a son of the late Andrew and May Ketchum Carpenter. He was a graduate of Marathon High School. Dean served honorably in the Pacific Theater of Operations during WW II and returned to his home of Harford, NY where he was a garage owner and operator for 60 years retiring in 2005. His wife, Jane Cortright Carpenter, died Oct. 1, 1969. Dean enjoyed his automobile repair business and was known throughout a wide area.
Survivors include his sons, Richard (Darlene) Carpenter of Dryden and Ronald (Leslie) Carpenter of Richford; his daughter, Debra Henson of Newfield; grandchildren, John Dean Carpenter, Stepanie (Steve) Varone, Mindy Carpenter, Jill Goff, Cassidy Goff, Stacy Banewicz; and a special friend, Margaret Waldron. Dean was predeceased by his brothers, John, Donald and Lynn Carpenter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Archie Smith officiating. Burial with military honors provided by members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 Friday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Memorial are graciously directed to the Harford Fire Dept., P.O. Box 7, Harford, NY 13784-0007.
