Dean H. Huff

DEAN HOLLINGER HUFF, age 92, of 8800 Routes 5 and 20, Bloomfield, NY died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at his residence, surrounded by several of his loving family members. Dean was born August 1, 1915 in Rock Falls, IL, son of the late Charles and Alta Hollinger Huff. After graduating from Cortland High School and Northeastern University, he married Gertrude Dutcher on February 15, 1941 in Waverly, NY. They began their dairy farming operation in McLean and relocated to West Bloomfield in 1955. Dean, Gertrude and their seven children were all active in making the farm a success. The farm has continued to grow under the management of eldest son Walt. After love of family, Dean’s greatest joy was farming.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in McLean and a Town Justice and Town Assessor in West Bloomfield. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Genesee Valley Milk Cooperative.

Survivors include his sons, Dean Walton (Meg)) Huff of Bloomfield, Charles Merritte (Zina) Huff of Clifton Park, NY; his daughters, Barbara Ann (Barry) Lees of Hardy, VA, Susan Ann (John) Walker of Richmond, VA, Karen Ann Huff of Vestal, NY, Betsey Ann (Charles) Ross of Rochester, NY and Charlene Ann (Mark) Elliott of Clifton Springs, NY; fourteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, who died September 21, 1994 and by his sister, Rowena Huff Dutcher, who died in October, 2001.

Burial will be Saturday, January 5 at 10:30 a.m. in McLean Rural Cemetery, McLean, NY. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5 at the West Bloomfield Congregational Church with Rev. Corey Keyes officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the West Bloomfield Fire Dept., P.O. Box 24, or the West Bloomfield Congregational Church, P.O. Box 5, both in West Bloomfield, NY 14585. Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY is assisting the family.
