Delmont Charles (Del) Robbins

Delmont Charles Robbins, 94, passed away on December 10, 2023, in Ithaca, NY. Delmont, known by his
friends as Del, was born May 29, 1929, to Charles and Virginia Robbins in Limestone, Pa. He was
employed for many years at Morse Chain as a tool and die repairman. He is survived by his son Daniel
(Janet), granddaughters Jaime Phelps (Kyle) and Laura Pinkham (Daniel), great grandchildren Joshua and
Chloe Pinkham, sisters Grace Rockwell, Barbara Jane Sundell and Louise Schoenthal, and numerous
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Millie), his brothers Alva and
William, and sisters Margaret Robbins and Virginia Wright.
Del was an industrious man with many skills and talents. Earlier in his career at Morse Chain, he did
additional odd jobs as a painter, assisting local contractors and even worked at a gas service station
where he met Millie. Later on in his career, in the evenings and weekends he designed and built his
home in Newfield.
When not working, Del’s sense of curiosity and wonder for nature drew him outdoors. He enjoyed
fishing and camping, traveling over the entire USA.  Throughout his life, he visited many National Parks,
as well as Hawaii and Alaska.  One of his favorite memories was taking a road trip to Alaska with his
mother, sister, and brother along with all of their families. Del’s interests were vast and varied.  Del
belonged to a camping club, a rockhound club, a square-dancing club, and several bowling leagues.  He
especially enjoyed connecting with others through his hobbies.  When not involved in clubs or leagues,
Del enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with friends and family; he always had a story to tell of an epic
game.  In quieter moments, he could be found birdwatching, putting together a puzzle, or going for a
walk with his family, friends, or his dogs that he loved dearly.  Del also could be found cultivating his
garden and creating tasty dishes to share with others.  His squash was legendary.
Del was a dedicated, hardworking man who built his life around other people.  That is where he truly
thrived.  After retiring from Morse Chain, Del enjoyed helping his nephew, John, on his farm in Watkins
Glen. In later years after he moved to Ithaca, he continued connecting with people through playing
cards, always enjoying engaging in friendly competition and conversation with friends and family.  Del
had an enthusiasm for life and sharing it with others.

A celebration of life gathering will be held in honor of Del at Nate’s Floral Estates Community Center,
located at 205 Cecil Malone Drive, Ithaca, NY on Thursday, December 28 from 12:30-2:00 PM. In lieu
of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to your favorite charity in Del’s memory.
Delmont Charles Robbins will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love for others, and dedication
to his craft. May his memory live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
