DENNIS E. COTTERILL, age 59, of Freeville, NY and formerly of Dryden and Groton passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 after a brief illness. Dennis was born September 12, 1955 in Ithaca, NY, a son of Clinton Cotterill and the late Blanche Pond Cotterill Spry. “Denny” was graduated from Dryden High School in 1973 and served in the US Air Force from 1974 to 1978 as a munitions mechanic. Upon discharge he was employed as a farm hand by Ron Davall, a delivery person for Dryden Implement, and a driver/laborer for Hicks Moving and Storage. In 1981 he began a career as a Utility Worker at Ithaca College where he was employed there until suffering a stroke in 2008. Denny was a member and Past Commander of Carrington-Fuller Post 800, American Legion and served on the Board of Directors there for 10 years.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Clinton (Jean) Cotterill; his brothers, Douglas (Karen) Cotterill of Dryden, Dale (Jean) Cotterill all of Dryden and Bradley Cotterill of Freeville; step-sisters, Cathy Stevens of Dryden and Joan Howser of Freeville; a step-brother, Michael Dawson of Auburn; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and step-father, Blanche and Robert Spry, Sr.; his step-mother, Leona Cotterill; his brother, Stephen Cotterill, step-brothers, David and Robert Spry, Jr. and a sister-in-law, Katheryn Cotterill.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. David C. Robinson officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call Wednesday at the funeral home, from 10 to 11 AM prior to the funeral. Friends are asked to consider a memorial, in his name, to Carrington-Fuller Post 800, American Legion.
