Dolores (Maloney) Feminella

Dolores Maloney Feminella, formerly of East Setauket, NY passed away peacefully at Ithaca Hospicare on June 14, 2022 at the age of 93.

Dolores was born in Brooklyn on November 9, 1928 to Harry and Sophia (Waszak) Maloney. She graduated from Bushwick High School in Brooklyn and then went on to Molloy College to become a registered nurse, a career that she was very proud of. Dolores worked in many different medical settings including the operating room at North Shore Hospital, Visiting Nurse, and the VA Hospital in Northport, NY. The assignment she seemed to treasure most though was working on the SS Hope, a peacetime hospital ship that traveled to developing countries as part of an outreach program to teach and assist medical counterparts in methods to improve their local health conditions – especially for young children. Dolores attended two meaningful yearlong voyages, one to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and another to the West Indies.

Dolores was an independent soul who enjoyed bird watching, travel, cultural events, and spending time by the water. She will be remembered for her engaging smile, quick wit, and very strong resolve.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Gene. She is survived by her Goddaughter Janet Vorstadt and Janet’s extended family.
