DONALD C. BURNS, age 87, of Graham Road, Lansing, NY passed away Tuesday, May 29th, at home after an extended illness.

Donald was born August 2, 1924 in Ithaca, a son of the late John and Emily Christman Burns. He attended Ithaca Schools and enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1941. He served with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal and various other island campaigns.

After WWII he began employment at NCR and the re-enlisted in the Marine Corps to serve in Korea in the Chosin Reservoir action. Returning to the states he resumed his employment at NCR where he was a model maker and a line worker.

He enjoyed playing golf. He was a Past Commander and a member of the Ithaca Post 961, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed traveling to US Marine Corps conventions.

Survivors include his wife, Lorna Feint Burns, his nieces, Barbara (Al) Cooper and Sally Snyder both of Freeville; his step-children, Michael (Bonnie), Dan (Donna) and Larry Hill; step-grandchildren, Dana (Daysia) Hill, Mary (Brian) Kivitco, Amy Hatto, Danialle (Keith) Neal, Anna (Ross) Siddare, Chad Hill, Carrie (Robert) Cole; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews including Linda and Donna Hamilton. He was predeceased by his brothers, Albert and Jack Burns and a sister, Beverly Hamilton.

Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Asbury Assembly of God Church. Burial with Military Honors will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call at the church from 10 to 11 AM Saturday. Memorials are directed to Hospicare, 172 East King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.
