Donald G. Enders (Don), 93, of Newfield, went to be with his Lord on September 24, 2021, with his wife and loving family by his side. Don was born in Springville, NY, on June 6, 1928, the son of William and Louella Enders. Don learned early on about hard work and its rewards, as his father was a farmer who, along with his mother, raised seven children and provided well for them.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Fran, of 50 years; sons, Robert (KapSun) Enders of Alaska and Daniel Enders of Groton; daughters, Vicky Enders, Diane Marshall and Bonnie (Jamie) Warren of Newfield. Don had 16 grandchildren from his blended family; Robin, Crystal, Jeanie, Jamaine, Brian, Michael, Jodi, Dorian, Devin, Julie, Jon, Justin, Brooke, Brittney, and Heidie; 22 great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, William and Louella Enders; siblings, James (Lucy) Enders, Willard Enders, Edward Enders, Jake Enders, Max Enders, and sister, Rita (Don) Benz, his daughters, Linda Seamon and Gail Howard, granddaughter, Michelle Kraft, and his beloved pet, Lamby.
Before his career in the linen business, Don worked as a "chaser" for Smith Corona in Cortland, NY. His linen career spanned over 40 years. It began at Ithaca Laundry and Southern Linen in Ithaca, NY as a route driver; Branch Manager of Atlas Linen of Syracuse, NY, based in Ithaca. Don retired from Atlas Linen and went to work at Cornell Laundry as a route driver and Manager. Upon retiring from the linen business, Don was a parking attendant for the Center Ithaca Parking Garage. He enjoyed the contact with people and being of service. Lastly, he delivered for the Ithaca Bakery for a few years.
After many years of serving the public, Don did very well in his career as a hard worker, self-made man, very personable, and hospitable individual. His father always told him, "A good morning to folks along with a smile is one of the best attributes to have." He proved his dad right, as his customers loved and respected him along with his family and friends.
Don loved watching football, baseball (Yankees), and basketball games. So along with three of his brothers, he organized a softball team (which he managed, umpired, and played 1st base). They played in the small towns in the area, Etna, Freeville, Dryden, and Groton. They were a team to be reckoned with!!
The family will greet friends at the Danby Community Church, 1859 Danby Road, Ithaca, NY Sunday October 10, 2021, calling hours will be at 3:30 pm with a service at 4:00 pm, followed by a reception.
