age 87, of Cortland, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca. “Don” was born March 11, 1925 in Ithaca, a son of the late Otto B. and Evelyn Boynton Rose. A 1942 graduate of McLean High School and a 1947 graduate from Rochester Institute of Technology,
Don served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945 in Patton’s Third Army. On June 25, 1947 he was married to the former Wilma Ryan at Dryden. Don had been employed at Grant’s Bakery, Camps Packing Co. and for 33 years at NCR. He also raised chickens and sold eggs. Don and Wilma lived for many years in Dryden and then relocated to Mt. Dora, FL for 17 years before returning to Johnson City to reside at Hilltop. They had recently moved to Cortland. He was a member of the Leonard T. Spaulding Post #1134, American Legion and had been a member of the United Methodist Church of Dryden, The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden and the Dryden Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Wilma R. Rose of Cortland; his daughter, Linda Stiles of Owego, his sons, David P. Rose of Cortland and Richard (Toni) Rose of Herndon, VA; grandchildren, Krista Ann (Joseph) Darrow, Kyle Daniel Stiles, Daniel Ryan Rose, James Edward Rose, Courtney Elizabeth (Kevin) Specter and Timothy David Rose; great-grandchildren, Madison Riley Darrow and Austin Joseph Darrow and a few cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. David C. Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Virgil Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Memorials are directed to the Leonard T. Spaulding Post 1134, American Legion, 2272 Dryden Rd., Dryden, NY 13053.
