Donald J. Searls

DONALD J. SEARLS, age 82, of 1184 Church Street, Cortland, NY died Saturday. Nov. 13, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Searls was born Nov. 29, 1921 at Sempronius, NY a son of the late Leon and Ethyl Turner Searls. He served in the US Army during WW II and was honorably discharged September 25, 1945. On Dec. 31, 1943 he was married to the former Beverly Ellis. Mrs. Searls passed away in 1996. Don was a fifty-seven year resident of Virgil and was a member of the Virgil Fire Department. He was retired from the Cortland County Highway Department.

Survivors include his sons, James L. (Dorothy) Searls of Cortland, Ronald L. (Deborah) Searls of Belleville, IL and Daniel J. (Cheryl) Searls of Groton and his daughter, Deborah (Roger) Davis of McGraw, NY; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. His brother, Leon, died in 2001.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004 at the Perkins Funeral Home. Rev. Janet D. Lee of the United Methodist Church of Virgil will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors provided by members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team in Virgil Rural Cemetery, Virgil, NY. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY.
