Donald E. Stone

Donald E. Stone, age 89, of Virgil, NY passed away Sunday January 8, 2017 at Cortland Regional Nursing Center, Cortland, NY.
Born December 27, 1927 in Freetown, NY he was the son of the late Harold and Martha Diekow Stone and husband of the late Santina Mancini Stone who died in 1996. Don was graduated from Virgil School in 1944 and in 1950 he joined the US Army serving honorably until 1952. Don was a Policeman in the City of Cortland Police Dept., retiring as Captain in 1981. In retirement he also worked for Suburban Propane, Monarch, Elm Tree Golf Course and was a groundskeeper at Willow Glen Cemetery. After the death of his first wife, Don married Elizabeth Brown Hebdon on May 9, 1998 at McLean, NY.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth J. "Betty" Stone, Don is survived by his sons, Garry F. Stone of Attica, NY and Allan D. (Cheryl) Stone of Rochester, NY; 21 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; stepchildren, Dawn (Paul) Clark of Camden, DE, Creig (Marie) Hebdon of Groton, NY, Wayne (Betty) Hebdon of Elgin, SC, Clifford L. (Carrie) Hebdon of Johnson City, NY and Linda L. Alexander of Dryden, NY; several nieces and nephews. In addition, he was predeceased by his daughter, JoAnn Pagano and son in law, John Pagano; daughter in law, Abby Stone, sister, Jean Stone Rook Zhe and brother in law, Guy Zhe.
Friends are invited to call from 4-6 pm Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY. A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Friday, January 13, 2017 at McLean Community Church with Pastor Dave Carter officiating.
