Doris M. Canfield

DORIS M. CANFIELD, age 84, of Harford Mills, NY passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Mrs. Canfield was born Nov. 7, 1933 in Canajoharie, a daughter of the late Richard and Grace Wall Lighthall. A 1951 graduate of Canajoharie High School, she continued her education at Morrisville State Teachers College. While working at the Cortland Memorial Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse, she met another employee, Charles K. Canfield to whom she was married on July 29, 1953. Doris was a talented cake decorator and was the kindest soul who ever lived. She loved little children and was the "go to person" in Harford for those who needed assistance with medical conditions. She was a recipient of the American Red Cross Real Heroes Award. Doris enjoyed camping, crocheting, knitting and most of all, spending time with her family. For many years, she was actively involved in working the family farm with her husband. Needless to say, her family and a host of friends will miss her greatly.
Survivors include her husband, Charles at home, her children, David (Sharon) Canfield of Harford Mills, Dennis (Candace) Canfield of Moravia, Dot (Rick) Hall of Fayetteville; her siblings, Raymond (Barbara) Lighthall of Munnsville, Richard (Sally) Lighthall in Florida; Shirley (Russell) Hoyer of Canajoharie; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and many extended family members. She was predeceased by two daughters, Debra Spencer and Donna Ellsworth; siblings, Mildred Dupree and Robert Lighthall.
Memorial services will be held at 6 PM, Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at the Perkins Funeral Home with her brother, Pastor Raymond Lighthall, officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Parker Street Cemetery, Lapeer. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 PM, Monday at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY.
