Dorothy A. Mix

Dorothy Alice Mix, 91, of Brooktondale (Caroline), died October 5, 2011at home. She was born October 2, 1920 in Caroline, daughter of the late Norman and Ida Shaw Mix, and grew up on the family farm. She attended the one-room school in Caroline and graduated from Newark Valley High School and Cortland Normal School. After teaching two years in a two-room rural school and working at Ithaca Gun Company two years during World War II she worked at New York State Electric and Gas Corporation for nearly thirty-eight years,

retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Caroline Valley Community Church in Brooktondale. Her hobbies were gardening, reading and genealogy.

Dorothy is survived by two brothers, William M. Mix and Lawrence D. (Dorothy Yaple) Mix of Caroline and one sister, Ina E. Mix of Caroline; three nephews, Donald (Denise Liddington) Mix and Matthew (Kathryn Sirois) Mix of Caroline and Nelson (Judy Facey) Mix of Washington,

DC and four nieces, Barbara Mix (Wilson) Kone of Caroline, Jeanette Mix (Gilbert) Tinney of Mayfield, Diane Mix (Roy) Moore of Lansing and Teresa Mix of Berkshire. She is also survived by 15 grandnephews, 11 grandnieces, 18 great-grandnephews, 18 great-grandnieces, 7 great-

great-grandnephews, 2 great-great-grandnieces and 6 cousins.

She was predeceased by her father in 1984, her mother in 1997, her brother Clarence Mix in 1925, sister-in-law Prudence Hotaling Mix in 2000, grandnephew Zedekiah Tinney in 1989 and grandniece Heather Kone Arsenault in 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Perkins Funeral
