Dorothy Jean (Adkins) French

Dorothy Jean French, or Jeannie to many, 68, of Newfield, NY, passed away peacefully at home on
Saturday, July 22 nd , 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born to Ralph and Dorothy
Adkins in Huntington, West Virginia on November 18 th , 1954, Jeannie moved to the Ithaca area at a
young age where she attended and graduated from Trumansburg High School. Prior to her debilitating
diagnosis, she enjoyed the simpler things in life, like spending time with family, playing with her dogs,
George, Nacho and Bebe, and watching murder mysteries on tv. Jeannie was passionate about her
family and friends; a kind and caring soul, who would do anything for those around her. She spent most
of her professional life in the food service field, working at Foodnet and Friendly’s as a cook, before
finding a more rewarding position cooking and caring for the children at IC3’s Kendall site. Jeannie is
survived by her husband of 40 years, Lloyd M. French Jr., her son, Randy (Karen) French of Trumansburg,
NY and daughter, Shelly Caveney of Newfield, NY. She is also survived by her three grandchildren,
Dessolyn French, Logan French and Kelsi Caveney, as well as many nieces and nephews. Private services
will be held at a later date, please contact the family for more information. In lieu of flowers, donations
