Dorothy Modell Nix Purinton

Dorothy had lived in both Oklahoma and Kansas and moved to Dryden, New York after her husband’s retirement. She had also lived at Longview and Old Hundred in Ithaca.
Dorothy was a member of AAUW, Pi Beta Phi Mother’s club, Dryden Fortnightly Club and Dryden Needle Club. She had been a proof reader for the Johnson County Kansas Herald. She was a devoted church member and had been a deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Fellowship sponsor, and held every office in the Women’s Fellowship. She delivered Meals on Wheels and was a hospital volunteer. Upon moving to Dryden she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dryden.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Kay Ross (George, D.V.M.) of King Ferry, her son, P. Thomas Purinton, D.V.M. (Molly) of Athens, Georgia; brother-in-law, Robert Purinton (Jean) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and her cousin, Anita Schafer, of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years; her sister, Cheryl Nix Funkhouser and her brother, Paul B. Nix.
Funeral services will be at 11AM., Friday, Nov. 16, at The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden with Rev. David C. Robinson officiating. There will be a luncheon at the church following the funeral. Burial will be at Willow Glen Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, Nov. 15, from 7 to 9 PM at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
