Dorothy Sarah McLean Shaw,
age 86, of Dryden, NY, died Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Groton Community Health Care Center, following a brief illness and stay at Cortland Regional Medical Center. Dorothy was born In Triangle, NY on March 22, 1925, the daughter of the late Lulu and Loren McLean. Dorothy had three brothers, Fredrick, Roger, and Kenneth, who all predeceased her, as well as surviving nieces and nephews. A few years after high school in Greene, NY, Dot became a wife to the late Arthur Shaw (divorced), homemaker, and mother to Brenda Volpicelli (Gary) of Concord, NC and Sherry Shaw-Pickle (Tom Pickle) of Dryden, NY. Besides the love and enjoyment of her daughters and grandchildren, Jenny and Brian Volpicelli, who live in Concord and Charlotte, NC, respectively, Dot loved being with friends, co-workers, and young people. For over 25 years, she worked as a cafeteria cashier in the Dryden Central School District and spent summers at the Tastee Treat in Dryden, so her pleasure in being with people was well-satisfied. She also enjoyed, for many years, crocheting, knitting, and crafts along with the Yankees during a winning season. Dorothy’s daughters would like to acknowledge the wonderful healthcare provided over the years by Dr. Peter Clark of Groton, as well as the staffs of the nursing home and hospital who cared for her recently with immense compassion and caring. Calling hours will be held from 3-4:30PM on Sunday, October 16 at Perkins Funeral Home in Dryden. The family plans to have a private service and burial at Willow Glen Cemetery in the near future. The family requests no flowers, please. Any memorial remembrance may be directed to a charity of one’s choosing. All arrangements are being handled by Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY. www.perkinsfuneralhome.com
