DOROTHY NASH SHEPARD, age 89, died Tuesday, January 27th, 2015 at the Groton Nursing Facility. Dorothy was born May 20, 1925 in Troy, Pa. a daughter of the late Roy and Bernice Sweeney Nash. She was graduated from Troy High School in 1943 and from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Elmira, NY in 1946. She worked as a private duty nurse, at St. Joseph Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Utica, NY, and for 27 years Dr. Ferger and Dr. Baurle in Dryden.
Dorothy and Harold were married on June 7, 1947. They moved to Freeville in 1956 and lived in the same house for 48 years. Dorothy loved her flower and vegetable gardens and especially enjoyed growing flowers inside and outside their Freeville home, she also enjoyed reading, traveling, cross country skiing, cross word puzzles, stage productions, crewel and sewing. She was a loving mother and grandmother who really enjoyed being a den mother when her sons were in Cub Scouts. She was a member of the Freeville Firemen Auxiliary for many years, a 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Troy, PA and a member of the Dryden Senior Citizens and the Dryden Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include her husband, Harold M. Shepard of Groton; two sons Drew (Chrystine) Shepard and Douglas (Elizabeth) Shepard; three grandchildren, Matthew Shepard, Ashley Foden and Scott Shepard; a great-grandson Connor Foden; a great-grand-daughter, Ellie Foden; several nieces, nephews and two cousins. Her sister, Doris Dunn died in 1986.
Funeral services will be private with burial in Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden. Friends who wish to remember Dorothy are asked to consider a memorial gift to the W. B. Strong Vol. Fire Co. Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 229. Freeville, N Y 13068.
