Dorothy Stevens

d. December 15, 2009

ITHACA – Dorothy Stevens, 93, died on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. She was the mother of Gret Atkin and grandmother of Jennifer Hudler, both in Ithaca, and wife of Joseph Stevens in Torrington, CT. She lived at Bridges Cornell Heights in Ithaca where she delighted and entertained the staff and residents with her witticisms and sweet, gentle nature for the past four years. We are so grateful for their wonderful, wonderful care.

Dottie gave thousands of hours as a volunteer to the Congregational Church, schools in Connecticut, Homemakers, the war effort, the American Red Cross – where she donated many gallons of blood, and Yale New Haven Hospital. She was Director of Volunteer Services at Connecticut Valley Hospital. She was a strong, independent woman who could fix anything with clear nail polish and duct tape.

Dottie was born on December 1, 1916 to Albert and Louise Clark. She is predeceased by former husband Oliver Atkin and siblings Robert Clark, Sue Sheehan, Margaret Decker, and Kenneth Clark. In addition to Gret, Jennifer, and Joe, she is survived by nieces and nephews, John Sheehan, Sandra Potter, and David and Dan Decker. She is also survived by step-children, Bette John, and Jeff Stevens.

Friends are invited to share memories at the Tudor at Bridges Cornell Heights at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Bridges Residential Scholarship Fund or the American Red Cross. www.perkinsfuneralhome.com
