Douglas E. MacKecknie,
age 70, of 1566 Tollgate Hill Road, Locke, NY died Monday, March 8, 2004 at DeMay Living Center, Newark, NY. after a lengthy illness. Mr. MacKecknie was born April 2, 1933 at Cortland a son of the late J. Hubert and Neva Shearer MacKecknie. He was graduated from Cortland High School in 1951 and from SUNY at Delhi and SUNY at Oswego with a Bachelors of Science and a Masters of Science. He did post graduate studies at the University of Colorado. His career as an Industrial Arts Teacher began at Newcomb, NY where he taught for 4 years before coming to Moravia Central School where he taught for 26 years, retiring in 1989. On June 2, 1956 he was married to the former Susie Belle Bowker at Homer, NY. "Doug" served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 and was a member of the American Legion. He also was a member of Sylvan Lodge #41 F.&A.M. and was an avid hunter and trap shooter. He participated in many area trap leagues and had been a member of the Skaneateles Rod & Gun Club and formerly was a member of the Homer Rod & Gun Club. Doug was a loving and proud husband, father and grandfather who having been an only child himself, was grateful to be part of a large family. He will be missed.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Susie Belle MacKecknie of Locke, his son, James D. (Bonnie) MacKecknie of Penfield, NY; his daughters, Michelle S. (Brian) Kwarta of Pittsford, NY, Carol L. (Patrick) Barry of Arnold, MD, Barbara J. (Karl) Norris of Skaneateles, NY; grandchildren, Bethany, Bradley, Brielle, Jacob, Joshua, Maria, Emily, Joseph, Nicholas; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Thursday, March 11, 2004 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Fellows officiating. Burial will be private in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer, NY. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Sylvan Lodge will conduct Masonic Services at 8:30 PM Wednesday.
